“Fitness Minutes” Elbow, Wrist & Hand Exercise Video
It is human nature for our bodies to find the path of least resistance (easiest route of movement) whether we are in pain or not. This often leads to compensated movement mechanics that cause overuse injuries in the smaller muscles of our elbows, wrists and hands. In this week's "Fitness Minutes" video, I demonstrate a few ways you can stretch and strengthen these areas in conjunction with the whole body to decrease inflammation and facilitate healing.
“Fitness Minutes” Ankle Exercise Video
For "Fitness Minutes" this week I am discussing a few important points about the foot and ankle and how to properly stretch and strengthen this area in preparation for walking, performing basic tasks around your house, and athletic activities. As I noted in last week's video, it is important to maximize motion at the ankle in order to avoid injury at another joint further up the biomechanical chain. Since our foot is the first thing to hit the ground when we walk, it is important for it to move well in all planes to set the rest of the body up for success.
“Fitness Minutes” Knee Exercise Video
In this week's "Fitness Minutes," I will be discussing proper movement mechanics of the knee and show you a self-mobilization technique followed by a few exercises to protect, stretch, and strengthen your knees. When the hip and the ankle are not moving well, the knee has nowhere to run and few places to hide. So, in order to properly set the knee up for success, it is important to address not only decreasing symptoms in the knee itself but also maximizing mobility above and below it to address the cause of those symptoms.
“Fitness Minutes” Hip Exercise Video
This week's focus for "Fitness Minutes" is on the hip. This video is a little longer than usual because I felt it was important to include a short educational segment on the hip flexor muscle. Specifically, I demonstrate what this powerful muscle looks like, where it is located and how it functions during gait.
“Fitness Minutes” Low Back Exercise Video
This week's edition of "Fitness Minutes" will focus on the low back. As I describe in the video, when we sit for prolonged periods of time our hips get tight and our core muscles can become weak. The video exercises will address stretching the low back to reduce symptoms but will also focus on improving motion in the thoracic spine and hips to reduce compression forces at the low back.
“Fitness Minutes” Shoulder Exercise Video
To keep you moving, this week's "Fitness Minutes" video will address the shoulder. This will allow you to stretch and strengthen your shoulders in all planes of motion in order to easily reach into high and low ranges to better prepare you for Spring clean-up.
“Fitness Minutes” Neck Exercise Video
Many of us have been holding so much tension in our necks during this challenging time, so I thought I would share this short video clip with you to calm this area down and get you moving.
